Located in the heart of Edinburgh, The Refinery at St. Andrew Square boasts stunning decor. A balanced combination of industrial chic and warm Scottish tones are found inside with raw woods, soft leathers, and tartan accents offering a cosy, yet sophisticated feel. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows look out onto the square making it the perfect venue for watching the world go by with a cocktail or coffee in hand.
The seasonally inspired food menus offer all day dining. At breakfast you can opt for light, healthy options such as pink grapefruit with creme fraiche and pistachios or Green eggs with spinach, smashed avocado and lemon on sourdough. If you’re looking for something a bit heartier, the hot smoked salmon benedict is a winner, whilst there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options – the avocado hummus on toasted gluten free flatbread with dukkah and pomegranate is a favourite with everyone. For something a bit more autumnal their wild mushroom & truffle toast with spinach, parsley and lemon is a must try. Looking for some weekend indulgence? Go all out with buttermilk chicken and waffle with avocado, sour cream, jalapenos and chilli maple syrup or pancakes with caramelised banana and pecan.
With the new menus having just launched, there’s a plethora of tasty treats for you to try. For lunch try the butternut squash salad with coconut, radicchio, feta and chicory or the cod tacos for something light. Or what about the smoked chorizo flatbread with piquillo peppers, taleggio, rocket, tomato and nut-free pesto? Keep it to yourself or enjoy it as a ‘share n tear’ option with drinks. Want something more substantial for lunch or dinner? Aside from the ubiquitous selection of burgers and well-made pub classics (the baggis burger has got to be our favourite), there’s crab linguini with chilli, mango, charred corn & crispy brown butter onions, Jerusalem artichoke with puy lentils, zhoung and spiced prune, and a collection of steaks.
Don’t forget the host of starters, sharing boards, side dishes, and nibbles to keep you going over drinks – and the drinks are pretty special. Let The Refinery take you on a voyage of discovery through their unique drinks list. From flavours of the West in the San Fran soda, comprising Bulleit Bourbon, Maraschino cherry liqueur, lemon, ginger beer and cherries to a taste of Sri Lanka with the Jeerack cocktail using Ceylon arrack, mango, cumin, black pepper, mint, ginger, lemon and soda. Your tastebuds will be taken on a serious journey.
We can’t forget our very own voyages from home of course, with our Scottish-inspired Irn maiden cocktail made using Selkie gin (created by The Refinery’s very own bar supervisor, Fabrizio), an Irn Bru reduction and lime. If you’re into your gins you’ll love the Tokyo drift Raku gin, plum sake, yuzu, lemon, honey and egg white for the smoothest of sips. Don’t forget to try their cracking selection of beers from the serious stuff in Wooha Wheat Beer at 6.4% right through to the lightest of low ABVs in Brewdog Nanny State at 0.05%.
